The Books of 2024

By Julie Wallace on December 2, 2024August 5, 2026

Let’s bring the year to a close the same way I have for a few years now – with books!

I keep a list of all books read in GoodReads. This year I set a target of 52…one a week.

I have smashed that goal to pieces. I’ve read 89 books this year!

(Which means I’ve neglected both garden and writing, but oh well.)

I like to use Bookshop.org for buying books. A year or so ago I even compared the experience and cost of shopping on Bookshop versus big book daddy Amazon and found little difference.

(Disclosure: All of the links to books are Bookshop.org affiliate links. If you click through the link and finalize a purchase, I earn a commission.)

Bookshop is fabulous because they “connects readers with independent booksellers all over the world. More specifically, they given over 80% of their profit margin to independent bookstores.

Here are the books that I read in 2024 that are available at Bookshop. And if you can’t decide what book to give someone, try a gift card.

Try clicking on “View All” to see all the books in a more friendly layout.

My Favorite Books of 2023

  • Fourth Wing – Young adult braves dragon riding school and then some.
  • Bookshops and Bonedust – Even battle-weary orcs need love – and books.
  • Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone – Dark comedy who-done-it where everyone suspect.
  • Scotland’s Sacred Hidden Past – I read metaphysics while in Scotland
  • Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe – Southern feel good romance with food.
  • Assistant to the Villain – Yes, even villain’s need assistants.

More Than Books

Bookshop has more than books: there are puzzles, notecards, games, and so much more.

Reading Into 2025

Here are a few books I have lined up to read in the new year.

  • The Realized Light of The Twelve Dimensions: Cosmic Rebirthing And Our Celestial Destiny by Joshua Reichmann
  • Light Over Liskeard by Louis de Bernieres (I bought this in Scotland and still haven’t read it!)
  • The Sky Over Rebecca by Matthew Fox
  • The Secret Orphan by Glynis Peters
  • The Moment of Tenderness by Madeleine L’Engle.

Give Books As Gifts

Books are one of my favorite things to give as a gift and to receive as well.

What books are you giving this year? What’s on your to read list for 2025?
