Stories

Visits Port Huron, 1940

Beva was in the Cass City Chronicle’s “Down Memory Lane” article of Thursday, February 25, 1965. “Mrs. Donald Wallace and sons, Bobby and Jack, are spending the week with relatives in Port Huron.” This appeared in the ’25 Years Ago’ section of the article.

Residence, 1940

The 1940 census shows Don and Beva living with children Robert, Beverly, and Jack. They rent their home for $12/month. He is 25, married, has graduated from high school, and works about 50 hours a week as a general farmer. (This is Mrs. Gillis’s house, south of the family farm.)

Racoon In The Living Room, 1950

In October 1950, the Cass City Chronicle reported, “The Cass City Chronicle reported that, “To walk into your dining room in the morning and find a coon sitting on a chair is a bit unusual, to say the least. This happened to Mrs. Don Wallace on Saturday morning. On Friday men working in a bean field flushed out the coon and during the night the animal entered the basement of the Wallace house and ate two ducks.”
